U.S.S. Von Franke by Jimlogan1701 U.S.S. Von Franke by Jimlogan1701
This is the U.S.S. Von Franke, i decided to change the blue coloring of the excelsior hull to black and added something to the front as suggested by BigTallDude ;-) . I may add a couple of (ball turret) phaser arrays but dont want to add so much that she looks like a war ship. My idea for the Von Franke is that she is more of a passenger transport that helps with rescue and evacuation missions.

The U.S.S. Von Franke is made from model components by Dave Metlesits

maybe you can answer a question I've long had about the Oberth class and similar vessels. How do you get from the command section to the engineering section? This ship looks large enough for turbolifts to be in the nacelle struts, but the Oberth class was much smaller and the struts were too thin. Did they beam back and forth? If so, that's a horrible design problem.

I just had a look around online, seems there is a turbolift at the rear of the main bridge and when looking at a schematic of the original oberth design there is a turbolift shaft that runs through the strut into the lower half of the starship. I would propose the same idea applies here ;-)

On yours, that works due to size. But the Grissom looked TINY on screen in STIII:TSFS. I can't believe a turbolift would fit in those struts. You were smart to upscale it using the Excelsior hull. Yours is a much more feasible design.

Very cool, glad my suggestion helped! I don't know if it's something about the textures or the virtual lens you've used for the render, but this image makes it look BIG. I can imagine this carrying more people than a Galaxy-class in her belly, which would be handy for the mission profile.

The belly is the same size as the excelsior, i think perphaps that the perspective angle i used may have been a bit too much lol ;-)

Love what you have done with this ship. I thought it was an Oberon(? spelling) class at first but she is bigger than that. Looking forward to seeing where this goes from here

I love the kitbash you did on these ships. It really adds some serious punch to the original design.
